The microscopy laboratory is located in an ISO 8 clean-room. Its main objective is to handle and study space return samples and meteorite samples (i.e. extraterrestrial materials). It is a key laboratory for characterizing new meteorites recovered or found around the world. The laboratory is also used to inspect electronic materials, components and systems developed in our other laboratories.
The microscopy laboratory is equipped with:
- A ZEISS Axio Scope A1 automated microscope for constructing high-resolution mosaics of thin and thick sections in reflected and transmitted light mode.
- A VERTEX 70 V vacuum interferometer and FT-IR, capable of analyzing samples from the far IR, near IR to visible/UV. To learn the composition and origin of the analyzed samples
- The laboratory also has stereo microscopy, heaters and scales.
