ICE-CSIC opens position for a new director

The Institute of Space Sciences (ICE-CSIC) Board agrees to open the procedure for the presentation of candidatures to become ICE-CSIC Director from 11 October to 11 November 2023.

Candidate requirements

Be  Established Researcher Personnel (Personal Investigador Doctor) of recognised prestige who has the appropriate suitability and professional qualification to perform the functions inherent to the position, including CSIC internal personnel or external personnel who are linked to CSIC through an agreement or other instrument that provides for it. 

Candidacies

In accordance with point 3.3.1, section d) of the Resolution of 29 November 2021 of the CSIC Governing Council approving the Regulatory Standard for the Research Institutes and other organisational structures of the CSIC State Agency, the request must be accompanied by the following documents:

  1. Cover letter (according to model I established by VORI), describing what motivates your interest in the management of the institute, highlighting those qualities that make you suitable for the position
  2. Detailed CV
  3. Detailed Management Project (according to model II established by VORI), with a limited extension, which will include:
  • Analysis of the situation, mission and vision of the institute (in line, as a guideline, with the sections included in the current CSIC Strategic Plan).
  • SWOT analysis and short and medium term perspective.
  • Scientific program, including challenges and expected results, proposed strategy and actions to be carried out.
  • Management programme, considering the economic-administrative situation of the institute.

Procedure Phases

The process schedule is as follows:

  • From 11 October to 11 November - Presentation of candidacies.
  • Extraordinary ICE-CSIC Board Meeting for certification of the candidates presented. If any of the requirements are not met, the correction period will be 10 business days. 
  • Faculty summoning: With one week's notice, the Faculty members will receive by email the documentation of the candidates for evaluation.
  • Faculty: Debate and collection of contributions by the faculty members to the project(s) presented. The faculty will commission one or more people to prepare a report on the process and accounting for the collection of endorsements.
  • Endorsements: The faculty members who will present the endorsements will do so, on the dates determined, in person at the Administration office.
  • Once the deadline for submitting endorsements has ended: The faculty commissioners will count them and a summary report of the process will be made.
  • Extraordinary Board Meeting where the Board will prepare a report taking into account: Report received from the faculty, opinion of the research groups that will be represented by the Heads of Department and opinion of the technical and administrative units, which will be represented by the Representatives of Staff to the Board. The minutes of this Board Meeting will be submitted to the CSIC Presidency.
  • Sending the Documentation to the UCAT for evaluation by the CSIC Scientific Advisory Committee, which will transmit to the Presidency its motivated proposal to occupy the position of Director. 
  • Presidency Resolution.
