The institute co-organises the 3rd Athena X-ray Observatory conference

The third scientific conference dedicated to the Athena X-ray Observatory "Exploring the Hot and Energetic Universe" organised by the Athena Science Study Team and the Athena Community Office will be held from 7th to 10th November 2022 at CosmoCaixa museum in Barcelona in a hybrid format.

A good number of researchers at the Institute of Space Sciences (ICE-CSIC) and the Institute of Space Studies in Catalonia (IEEC) are part of the Scientific Organising Committee (SOC) and Local Organising Committee (LOC).

Talk by Jocelyn Bell

In the framework of this conference, ICE-CSIC and IEEC organise a public talk by Prof. Jocelyn Bell Burnell (Oxford University), moderated by astrophysicist Nanda Rea.

  • "Jocelyn Bell: the discovery of pulsars".

More information

ATHENA (Advanced Telescope for High-Energy Astrophysics) is an X-ray mission selected by ESA within its Cosmic Vision Program to address the Hot and Energetic Universe scientific theme. The outstanding capabilities of Athena as an observatory are expected to make a profound impact in essentially all fields of Astrophysics, from understanding the structure and energetics of stellar winds to probing the physics of the enrichment and heating of our Galaxy's Inter-stellar Medium by supernova explosions.
